Peppermint Hot Chocolate, Baking & Wrapping Christmas Gifts!

Oh how I love the holidays! cold weather, sweaters, holiday music, baking, shopping, wrapping gifts, watching people frantically shop for friends and family. Happy Holidays!
This year I decided to make a delicious dessert gift for my friends and family. The dessert is called Puppy Chow. I decided to make this dessert because it reminds me of my childhood holidays. I remeber in elementary school my friend's mom would make Puppy Chow every year, it is now one of my favorite holiday treats. While this dessert is very messy to make, it is quick, easy and fun to make with friends or family during the holidays. I found this great recipe online! http://www.momswhothink.com/easy-recipes/puppy-chow-recipe.html

Puppy Chow

Ingredients:
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup butter
1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
9 cups Crispix cereal (any flavor)
3 cups powdered sugar
Instructions:
1. Combine peanut butter, butter and chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl.
2. Microwave for one minute then stir to blend all ingredients thoroughly. Add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Stir well.
3. Place the 9 cups of Crispix cereal in a very large bowl.
4. Pour the peanut butter-chocolate mixture over the cereal and toss evenly, making sure all the cereal gets a good covering.
5. Place the powdered sugar in a large zip-lock type plastic bag.
6. Add the peanut butter-chocolate cereal mixture to the bag, leaving enough room for the puppy chow to be shaken (you may have to divide the mixture into smaller batches, coating one batch at a time).
7. Shake the bag vigorously to evenly coat each piece of the puppy chow with powdered sugar.
8. Once the mixture is fully coated, place in a large serving bowl.
9. Coat any additional pieces by shaking the mixture in the powdered sugar filled bag.  Add powdered sugar to the bag as needed until all the mixture is coated.

Design & Decor

I have recently been really into architecture, design, and decorating. I have also found many cool books about these subjects. My most favorite being Design Sponge At Home By: Grace Bonney. I just bought it today, and I am obsessed with it. So obsessed in fact, that I spent most of the afternoon pouring over its wonderful photography, and decor ideas when I should have been studying. See I have two exams tomorrow, but all I can think about is designing and re-arranging my living room, so I figure whats the point in studying when I'm not really paying attention. Therefore, I sit here typing and enjoying a cupcake not thinking about History or Philosophy whatsoever. (* I will probably regret this blog tomorrow when I'm taking my test!)
Anyway, the other day I was on Pintrest and discovered some really cool Home Decor photos, so I wanted to share a few. All of the following were found on Pintrest and are from various places. http://pinterest.com/

Love the natural feel of this!
Really into minimalist decor with a pop of color!
Love the light fixture!

Music Documentary: Echotone

The other day, I was invited to see a screening of this wonderful documentary. It was really eye-opening and intersting. The Cinematography, sound and editing are outstanding. The director Nathan Christ is a genius. You can support Echotone here.-------> http://echotonefilm.com/ Buy the DVD!

Internationally known as 'The Live Music Capital of the World,' Austin's music culture has led it to become one of the world's most sought-after destinations. As nearly two dozen high-rises pop up throughout the city amidst an economic downfall, how does the working musician get along? This lyrical documentary provides a telescopic view into the lives of Austin's vibrant young musicians as they grapple with questions of artistic integrity, commercialism, experimentation, and the future of their beloved city. Echotone is a cultural portrait of the modern American city examined through the lyrics and lens of its creative class.(IMDb.com)
So many great bands are also featured in this documentary. It is a must-see for all musicians, filmmakers, and musiclovers like myself.

Coffee & A Good Book

(Thanks google)

This book has gained so much hype since its release into the literary world of page turners. After hearing a great deal about this book I printed off a coupon from Barnes & Noble.com and dashed to the bookstore. You can find this book in the Teen section in a bookstore nearest you. I will be starting this book today. Even though I had heard about this book before I purchased it, I would have bought it regardless just because the cover is eye-catching. I have learned the more eye-catching the cover, the better the book. However, this is not true for all books. "Never judge a book by its cover," but I am super excited to read this book.

Nerdy! :)

(thanks google!)
During the Thanksgiving Holiday I saw this book at Barnes & Noble and just had to have it! I have been a fan of Mindy Kaling's work since before she started her career at The Office. Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) is an inside look into the life of Mindy Kaling. She is funny, witty, honest and bold. She writes in a raw manner and tells it like it is. After reading this book, you will be laughing and pondering some of the topics she discusses. The book also left me wondering what my life would sound like if I penned my own book. Now, of course I do not have any credibility that would make people want to buy my book such as Mindy does, however, I do think a people's autobiographies are highly entertaining. This book should definetly be on everyone's holiday wish list. It is a fun, hilarious, and quick read for everyone who has ever enjoyed The Office, or comedy in general. This book is also essential for all the nerdy girls like myself because this book is self-assuring that YOU are not the only nerd in the world. Being nerdy is Awesome!!! Go read this book already!

Blink Is Back!

Song of the Day-Snake Charmer Artist: Blink 182
Blink 182 just released their newest album on September 27th. I just bought it today and let me just say it is Epic! I've been a fan of Blink for a long time and I think this is one of their best albums thus far. It's really different from any of their previous work, but it is deffinitly Blink! They are back and better than ever. Can't wait to see what other work they will do.
Also, Wilco has a new album out called The Whole Love. Check it out!
In other news,  the latest Nylon magazine is really good! And the newest TV shows worth watching are Pan Am and Dirty Soap. I'm not a big fan of Soap Opera's, but Dirty Soap is relatively interesting.

Pumpkin Spice Latte

Books & Coffee & Magazines, Oh My!
Song of the Day: "Center" Artist: Charlie Hall
today my friend and I journeyed over to our weekly hangout Barnes and Noble to browse for new books to read. I recently just got a box of books in the mail, but I just felt like going to an actual bookstore to look around. So, as I sipped some of Starbucks fall blend of a piping hot Pumpkin Spice Latte I was overcome with joy over all the pretty new books just waiting to be read. If you are wondering if I am always like this with books, the answer is yes! I always feel giddy surronded by books. (I'm a nerd I know, get over it!)

Turtle Vs. Hare - I am the turtle Right Now!

I'd much rather blog than write an essay I have to write, so here I am. Why is it that you can have complete writers block when you need to write something important, but other times you can write for hours about things that are totally un-important? Whatever. I don't want to think about it anymore for now.
Song of the Day: The Vast Spoils of America Artist- Saves the Day
I wish I was on vacation!

Today has been ridiculous. After trying to work on my paper, I gave up and decided I needed to get my car washed. (Dumb idea) The 1st car wash I visited didn't take credit cards, the 2nd car wash was out of order, then a bird shit on my already dirty car for about the 5th time. Then, I was really irritated so I went to Starbucks, where they messed up my order. Then, I drove to the mall in attempt to relax and shop, but I couldn't find parking at all. So, here I am back at my computer mindlessly trying to get something accomplished today. I'm also thinking about either baking cookies or reading a book. geez! I'm so lazy today!

TV Referred To As The Idiot Box... I Think Not?

I have spent this whole weekend analysing television as a cultural forum to make sense of how we interpret the messages we see and hear in the media. Furthermore, the television is not an idiot box because it displays social issues and conflicts that mirror our society, thus, encouraging us to make our own assumptions about what is going on around us. I chose to focus on The O.C., a television drama which  aired from 2003-2007. The O.C. displayed many social issues throughout its seasons as a popular teen drama. As a tribute to my spending 180 minutes in front of the supposed "Idiot Box" to write this essay, I will share a clip of it with you. It is a really good show, not only is the storyline good, but the writing is really creative and witty.

It's Record Store Day!

My Favorite Record Store is Music Millenium in Portland, OR. What's yours?
Record Store Day is one of my favorite days of the year. Today is the day to show support to your local record store and tell them how much you appreciate them. Visiting your local record store to buy Cd's may not be the cheapest way to obtain music, but going to the record store is a whole experience. When you visit a record store today ask yourself these questions:
What cool people did I meet?
Did they recommend any new bands?
How was listening to the record in store?
What was playing in the store?
Were the employees cool and knowledgeable about the records?
Did they know about Record Store Day? (They Better!)
These are simple things that cannot be obtained by purchasing music on itunes, so get out there and enjoy music with other people.
To find a list of rare Cd's and check if your local record store has them visit this website
http://www.recordstoreday.com/Home

I would also suggest watching High Fidelity and Empire Records Today!

Orange Fizz, Space Cadet

Song of the Day: My Crooked Crown Artist: Her Space Holiday
Greetings blog world.
Spring is here... which means spring cleaning! I've been watching that hoarding show on TLC and it has made me want to spring clean like never before. No I am not a hoarder, but I do have magazines and things that I do not really need. Thus, some of the excess stuff I have is going to be recycled, or given to Good Will. One person's trash is another person's treasure and I'd like to think that my stuff will help someone in need, or that I can save the planet by recycling. All in all, cleaning out creates good deeds and helps me live more simply.

Green Tea & Jammin

Song of the Day: Open House- Artist: Bombay Bicycle Club
Today has been exciting! This morning, I went to a cute little diner where I indulged in some seriously delicious french toast and good times with great friends. Then, I made my way to the nearest Starbucks for some Green Tea. I've been obsessed with Green Tea lately, and Starbucks has become my daily tea stop. After, rapidly consuming my tea, I went to my friend's house where we played with her dog Cricket and listened to music.
She also gave me a lot of music to add to my already full ipod. I really need the 120 GB ipod.
