Under The Overpass

This weekend I journeyed to a small town to see my grandmother. Although it was good to see her, the town she lives in couldn't be more boring. To paint a clearer picture of just how boring... everyone knows everyone else, so I spent a lot of time learning the life stories of old people I'd never met. Then, it also proceeded to rain the entire time I was there. It hardly ever rains there so this was a very odd occurrence, which left us stranded in the house and talking about knitting. I contemplated going to the movies on one of the days however, the theater only had three screens and none of the movies showing sounded good. I flipped on the t.v. to see if anything good was on, maybe Everybody Loves Raymond, Dexter or even Wheel of Fortune, but nope again nothing good or remotely entertaining. I kind of had a feeling this trip was going to be a lot of sitting around so I'm glad I had packed a book in my suitcase. I had bought this book a couple of years ago, but had never had a chance to read it. This weekend seemed like the perfect opportunity to read it and it was. The book is called Under The Over Pass- A journey of Faith on the Streets of America, hence today's blog title. This book is one of the most amazing books I have ever read, so eye opening and interesting. The book is about a young guy who is in college at a Christian University, but one morning he wakes up and decides that he wants to experience homelessness and put his Faith to the test. In this book the author Mike Yankoski tells of  his journey with a friend through five months of homelessness in six different cities. How he survived? The people he met? The friends he made? How his faith was put to the test and also kept him going. This book just goes to show that with Faith in God anything is possible! I read this book in two days and I will definitely be re-reading it and telling my friends about it. If you are a Christian I hope you will read this book and enjoy it as much as I did. If you are not a Christian, I hope you will read this book, and become encouraged to be a Christian. <><

Movies:
I just saw Country Stong the other day, it is a good movie but it's too long. It's the classic run of the mill story about a musician's decent into drugs and alcohol and how hard it is to be famous. So, with that being said, it was nothing new and interesting. However, Gweneth Paltrow is a really good singer. I really enjoyed the soundtrack too. The soundtrack is availible on iTunes and probably in stores.
Also, Social Network came out on DVD and Blue-Ray today.
The Green Hornet starring Seth Rogen opens this week in theaters
The Dilemma also opens this week, it stars Vince Vaughn and Kevin James
No Strings Attached stars Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman, it opens in theaters on Jan. 21
and The Mechanic starring Jason Statham opens in theaters Jan. 28

Where Is My Mind

The title of today's post comes from the song "Where Is My Mind." I was watching Fight Club last night on FX and that is the last song at the most epic moment of the movie when Tyler kisses Marla and everything around them is chaos. I absolutely love this movie for many reasons. I love the music obviously, but also the twistedness which is Fight Club. Chuck Palanuik is a very talented writer. If you have not read the book or seen the movie you should see it ASAP. Ok, enough about Fight Club, in other news Spin Magazine has a free playlist availible for download of the hottest music of 2010. The link is http://www.spin.com/itunes. This Spin playlist is full of great music from Deerhunter, Wavves, The Walkmen, Spoon, MGMT & more. Also, my friend who wants to be an interior designer recently showed me a really cool blog for all of you Home Decor lovers, it's called http://fuckyeahrooms.tumblr.com/ This website is full of great decorating tips and ideas for any home space. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Happy New Year Everyone! I am so excited for this new year. I just ate my black eyed peas of good luck in this next year. Today, is a beautiful day. I have no New Year's resolutions yet, but im working on it. I think my first resolutions will be to drink more water and eat healthier. I also want to travel more in this new year. I really enjoyed watching Lil Wayne's time square performance and Greyson Chance's performance covering Lady Gaga's song Paparazzi. I liked his version of the song a lot more than Lady Gaga's actually. 2010 was full of good music and I'm looking forward to the music of 2011. Death Cab For Cutie has a new cd coming out this year, as well as Blink 182. Also, Pete Wentz has a side project called Black Cards. You can hear one of the songs called Dominos on Alt. Press.com. In other news, I know I have mentioned this before but as a reminder, Cage the Elephant has a new album coming out called Thank You, Happy Birthday that is set to release on Jan.11. The Architects also have a new song out and it's called Learn To Live.
well that's all for now. Check back for more pop culture and music news soon.
